Summer News From FACT

By Harry Rhodes, Executive Director

Summer seems to be flying by here at the FACT Office. Somehow it's already mid-August!

In our blog post today, we would like to share with you our latest updates which are in our Summer FACT Sheets Newsletter. These include our new cohort of Fund-a-Farmer grantees and how the FDA is failing to address the real source of antibiotic resistance. You may read our full summer newsletter (pdf) or peruse some of the excerpts below.

If you want to dig deeper into the world of humane farming, I would love to invite you to join our exclusive online community! Expect enriching insights into our initiatives, updates on our advocacy work, and exclusive behind-the-scenes content from our partner farms. The community is hosted on the Makua App which you can download here (currently available for iPhone users only).

I would also like to share that FACT's Safe and Healthy Food Program has recently been on a podcast tour to raise awareness about the problem of antibiotic resistance. You can listen to the episodes that have been released so far here.

The Impact of Our Legacy Gifts

We have received some incredibly generous legacy donations over the years and we are very grateful that these donors have selected to remember FACT in their will. Read about two legacy gifts we have received recently and the impact they have had on our work on Page Two of the FACT Sheets. You can also find out about how you can include FACT in your estate planning.

Announcing Our New Fund-a-Farmer Grant Recipients

In April we were absolutely delighted to announce our 2023 Fund-a-Farmer Grant recipients! With 87 farms and ranches located across 34 different states and the District of Columbia, this crop of grant recipients represents our largest cohort ever. We cannot wait to hear all about how their funded projects benefit their animals, ecosystems, and communities. Read more about the grants and some of the recipients on Page Four of the FACT Sheets.

When it Comes to Antibiotic Resistance, the FDA is Going After the Mouse While Ignoring the Elephant

Despite the increased awareness, action on antibiotic overuse in agriculture is moving way too slowly and the FDA needs to address the real source of the problem. Read more on Page Six of the FACT Sheets.

Please share the good work FACT is doing with your friends, neighbors, and family members and consider making a gift to FACT today. This will ensure that all food-producing animals are raised in a humane and healthy manner and that everyone will have access to safe and humanely-produced food.
