We are pleased to share with you FACT’s 2023 Annual Impact Report. 2023 was another successful and impactful year at FACT. We have had many important achievements and continue to lead the movement for the humane and healthy production of food-producing animals.
As FACT works to change the narrative about family farming and what the future of farming should look like, here are some of our highlights from the last year:
Last April we awarded 87 grants to farmers in 33 states, benefitting an estimated 92,000 animals. This is the highest number of grants we have awarded since the program started in 2012. Stay tuned for an announcement about our 2024 grants coming soon.
Our Mentorship program offers new and beginning farmers the chance to learn directly from more experienced farmers. In 2023 we were able to match 33 mentorship pairs.
FACT is the lead organization nationally that has been calling on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ban the carcinogenic drug carbadox, which is still given to most pigs raised in confinement in the United States. In December we finally made progress when the FDA announced its plan to ban this drug.
We continue to lead the Keep Antibiotics Working Coalition in an effort to reduce the amount of antibiotics given to food animals by 50%.
We brought 13 farmers to D.C. for the Farmers Climate Action: Rally for Resilience where we participated in 18 meetings with Congressional offices and the USDA We urged policymakers to support grazing, local meat processing, and climate solutions in the Farm Bill.
This work is helping us achieve our Vision that all food-producing animals will be raised in a humane and healthy manner, and everyone will have access to safe and humanely-produced food.
However, none of this growth would be possible without the generosity of our donors. FACT receives no government grants, but instead relies on private contributions to keep our work fully independent.
