Tall Grass Grazing: Transition Off of N Fertilizer

October 16, 2019

Tall Grass Grazing permits a life without Nitrogen fertilizer and the opportunity to work with nature instead of shoving her aside with inputs. The result is plenty of grass, a better bottom line, and more time for you and your family. This webinar will detail the how to’s of tall grass grazing using sheep, the combined economic benefits, and some challenges that may be encountered. Also covered is using biology instead of chemical inputs to solve problems. Although this takes place on an irrigated farm in Montana, the principles can also be easily applied to rainfall pastures as well. Our presenter is Dave Scott, Livestock Specialist with NCAT/ATTRA. Dave and his wife Jenny run 200 Polypay ewes and their lambs on 32 irrigated acres in Southwest Montana. Dave has had his share of “Wow, that worked “and “Oh, that sure didn’t” experiences giving him insight into working with nature to improve profit. Always the farmer, Dave looks for simple solutions to root problems.
