Food Animal Concerns Trust (FACT)
seeks new Executive Director

FACT is a national non-profit organization based in Chicago and is seeking to hire a full-time Executive Director to assume this position in April 2019.

FACT envisions that all food-producing animals will be raised in a healthy and humane manner so that everyone will have access to safe and humanely produced food. We achieve this vision by promoting humane farming and advocating for the safe production of meat, milk and eggs. FACT also helps consumers make humane and healthy choices. FACT has an operating budget of approximately $600,000, is governed by a 10 person Board of Directors and has approximately 1,700 annual donors and twelve foundations who support its work.

FACT is respected by its individual and foundation supporters; by the national public health, consumer advocacy, environmental and humane farming non-profits with which it works and by federal and international agencies and organizations engaged in issues of food safety and farming policies and practices. FACT has the Gold Star Seal of Transparency from GuideStar.

Responsibilities:

The Executive Director will be responsible for the overall operation of the organization, leading FACT’s fundraising outreach, and providing both fiscal and staffing oversight. The Executive Director will serve as the primary spokesperson and public face of FACT. He/She will also need to demonstrate commitment to the fulfillment of FACT’s vision and mission, and fully engage and be responsive to FACT’S Board of Directors.

Work Hours & Travel Expectations:

  • Evenings and weekends will be periodically required.

  • Travel will be necessary for Board meetings, foundation and major donor visits, staff and program related functions. FACT covers all documented travel costs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, with post graduate work preferred

  • Minimum of 8 years of related senior level experience, ideally in the nonprofit sector

  • A proven track record in successful fundraising, including with foundations and major donors

  • Enthusiasm about being a part of FACT, contributing to and leading positive outcomes

  • Experience in leading and managing staff members

  • Expertise in strategic planning, implementation and evaluation

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills

  • Clear and engaging public speaking skills with the ability to present to a broad cross-section of the public, including family farmers, donors, policy makers, Board Directors, and other stakeholders

  • Professionalism and the ability to keep sensitive data confidential

  • Involvement and interest in food/agriculture/animal welfare issues preferred.
